Why Mental Health?

There are many important aspects to focus on in farm safety, however mental health services for Victorian farmers are of utmost importance. It’s crucial to acknowledge that farmers face stressors that can significantly impact their mental well-being. Additionally, access to professional mental health support in regional areas is often under-resourced.

For this reason, MOFS is developing a mental health handbook created by farmers, for farmers. Our objective is to enhance understanding of mental health and available services, reduce stigma associated with seeking help or speaking up, and foster a culture of mental wellness in rural settings.

MOFS will collaborate with industry professionals, advocates, and farmers to create the handbook. The team will then distribute the handbook, and networking initiatives around mental health, organising events and town halls. Our aim is to cultivate a trusted community, that can provide mutual support and assistance.

Mental Health Handbook Steering Committee

We are currently forming a Handbook Steering Committee.

We are seeking industry professionals, social workers or mental health advocates with community-based experience, and importantly farmers interested in mental health support to join our voluntary committee. The committee will work in collaboration with our team to create the handbook, which once published will be a free resource for farmers.
